THE DEATH OF ART 2017 - ?

Conceived as a tribute to the artists who have marked the history of Western art, THE DEATH OF ART brings together some three hundred and eighty photographs showing – from the Renaissance to the present day – the tombstones of the greatest artists whose graves have come down to us.

The ensemble constitutes a kind of Pantheon of Western art and brings together in one place and at one time artists whose graves are scattered across the world and the centuries.

The images were made since 2017 in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, England, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and the United States. The images are printed under glass and are the exact dimensions of each artist's tombstone.

In September 2022, THE DEATH OF ART was presented for the first time as an installation at the Musée Jenisch, Vevey, Switzerland, as part of Images Vevey, biennale des arts visuels.
